ࡱ> BDA#` bjbjmm ..*  *A $h_ppp pR  pV@\ :W . 0Ax  \ \dsqrApppp*** *** *** Hollis Womans Club General Meeting Wednesday, January 9, 2008 Call to order by President Diana Kroeger at 12:05 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by Audrey Augun January Charity is the Nashua Pastoral Care, which requested toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner and large-sized diapers because these items can not be purchased with food stamps. Treasurers Report prepared by Diane Raitt is on every table and will be filed for audit. Activities: Diana Kroeger reported for Julie Forgaard that a monthly calendar of club events was available on each table along with a page of descriptions for each club. Thanks were extended to Sharon Hamilton and her commitment for hostessing this meeting. Ways and Means: Susan Benz thanked the volunteers who donated time to do gift wrapping at the Pheasant Lane Mall. Susan does not have a dollar total as yet. She stated that it was a fun experience and that the club will offer this opportunity again next year. On January 23rd, club members can participate in Ski at Sunapee. Members can sign up at the meeting and Susan will post to members if the day is a go, weather permitting. Flower Show tickets are available for $15 each. The show takes place on March 8-16 at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston. There is the opportunity to carpool with other members. Via HP, tickets are available for The Drowsy Chaperone at the Opera House on Thursday, April 24th, 7:30pm. Mezzanine seats are available for $78 each. Susan has organized another bus trip to New York City on Saturday, June 14th. Tickets are $58 each. The bus leaves the Welcome Center in Nashua at 6AM and returns around midnight. Girl Scout Cadette Troop #650 cookie forms are available at the meeting. Also, if anyone wants to order cookies and donate them from this troop, then the cookies will go to Bridges. For more information, contact Susan Benz or Diana Kroeger. Ginny Brooks reminded members that the Girl Scouts often donated time to help with the Strawberry Festival and with the babysitting event. The Babysitting event hosted 22 children and the Girl Scouts are willing to help again next year. They earned a badge for this activity. Ella De Bakker led a popular origami folding activity that was a big hit with the kids. All the food was consumed by attendees. Old Business: Diana Kroeger announced that the Hollis Womans Club always meets at the church. Members are encouraged to bring a friend. New Members are always welcome. Babysitting is available at $5 per family. Members are now asked to pre-register for the babysitting service. Next months board meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 9AM at the Lawrence Barn. The next General Meeting of the HWC is on Wednesday, February 13th, at Faith Baptist Church. The February charity will be Home Health and Hospice. At the December meeting, members donated $175 in gasoline gift cards to The Caregivers, Inc. for distribution to volunteers to help the elderly. The organization was thrilled to receive this gift. Those who sold items during our Holiday Coffee donated $150 to go toward Adopt-A-Family, which was spearheaded by member Jane Taylor. 13 members showcased their talents and wares at the December meeting. Ellen Walker was thanked for arranging this event and the exhibitors stood to be recognized. Ginny Books was thanked for her work on the holiday coffee. Jane Taylor announced that the HWC had successfully donated items for a family in need who has ties to Hollis. The club adopted this family (a mother, father and five month old child) over the holiday season. Many members donated gift cards and cash. Cash donations, together with donations from the December Coffee exhibitors, were turned into a Hannaford gift card for the family. Jane stated she would like to do the same thing again next year. Hollis Seniors need volunteers to serve lunch one Thursday per month. There are still slots available for sign up. The HWC made a $50 donation to U.N.I.C.E.F. The HWC made a $100 donation to the Hollis Heritage Commission in honor of Sharon Howe, who was our guest speaker during the GFWC-NH District 6 meeting at the Lawrence Barn on October 6, 2007.. Betsy Cotton represented the HWC at the Hollis Brookline High School Volunteer Fair and found many students willing to volunteer at the Strawberry and Apple Festivals. Chick Weatherbee of Earthward will be the guest speaker at the February Meeting. He will speak in nutrition. The Corpus Christi Food Pantry is the February charity. The Boy Scouts will pick up Christmas trees on January 12 for a fee of $10. Proceeds will go to hospitalized veterans in Concord. Call Alan at 325-9560. The Rotary will host the Hollis Super Bowl Brunch at Alpine Grove on February 3 for $15 per ticket. Raffle prizes will be awarded. Cynthia Andreola stated that the Daddy-Daughter Sweetheart Dance would be held at the Lawrence Barn on February 8th from 7 to 9PM. This dance is for girls aged six to 12. New Business: The GFWC-NH Mid-Winter meeting is on January 26 at the Courtyard in Concord. The registration and lunch fee total is $30. Charities are the Girls and Boys Club and the Department of Corrections who are seeking new and current novels for their library. Members at large were asked to volunteer for the budget committee. Diane Raitt is the chairperson. Ellen Baker volunteered. Two members were needed for the Constitution and Bylaws Committee where most business is done via electronic mail. Ella De Bakker and Audrey Augun volunteered. The May Annual Luncheon at The Mileaway needs a Chair to oversee the event. Linda Crabtree volunteered. The Strawberry Festival will be held from 2-4p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Diane Raitt is the chairperson and Jane Taylor is the co-chairperson. Volunteers are needed. Shawntel Fugate introduced a newer member, Julia Greenspan, a naturopath physician. Julia is also our January speaker.
