Hollis Woman’s Club General Meeting

Call to Order by President Diana Kroeger at 12:00 P.M.

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women led by Victoria Witt

Visitors and guests were welcomed by Diana. 

Diana announced that the minutes for the November General Meeting are on the Greeter's table for review.

Treasurer’s Report: copies prepared by Sheryl Ellis are on each table for review.

Activity Group Report was read by Diana.  The bowling group has been cancelled for the winter.  Contact Sheryl for information on the start-up date in March, Dining Out is cancelled for January by will resume in February.  There is a new activity starting up.  Ellen Walker will lead a Diet Group based on the book YOU:  On a Diet.  The group will walk in the morning and meet weekly.  Activity lists and sign-up sheets are on the table, as well as the schedule for activity groups for January and February.

Diana reported that fourteen club members displayed their interests or businesses at the Holiday Coffee.  Ten percent of their profits were returned to the club for a contribution to the Santa Fund.  The club added to this collection and $100 was donated to the Telegraph Santa Fund.  Our January Charity is the Nashua Upper Room, and jars of peanut butter are being collected for this non-profit. Fellow member Christy Glaskill will deliver the donations to the organization.  Freda Bromberg and her committee were thanked for the refreshments for today’s meeting.  And, Donna Fusi and her committee were thanked for their December Holiday Coffee refreshments.  Panera Bread on Amherst Street donated many of the sweets and bagels for today’s meeting.  Members were asked to thank the business for their donation when they patronize it. 

Volunteers are needed for the Senior Luncheon project.  This is two hours of service once a month with the need of two volunteers.  Our commitment is the fourth Thursday of the month. 

Susan Benz announced she will secure discount tickets for the New England Flower Show being held March 17-25, 2007 with a savings of $5.00 on each ticket.  Ski days have been planned:  January 31, 2007, Ragged Mountain for $50.00 per car load and on March 13, 2007 Mount Sunapee.  Fee is $42.00 for lift ticket, brunch, half-price child care and discount lessons.

Old Business:  Susan Benz announced the New York City trip being planned for June 2, 2007.  Again the transportation will be a luxury bus for the 4 ˝ hour drive. 

Diana announced that the FGWC meeting will beheld on January 27, 2007 in Concord.  Sign up for anyone interested in attending with Diana is on the table.  Ginny Brooks and Florine Broden reported that $265 in coins was collected in the community for UNICEF.

New Business:  Diana announced the December passing of E. Marion Lull Howe, honorary and 50-year member of HWC.  A donation to Project Hope will be made in her memory by HWC.  Susan Crupi's grandmother passed away recently and Kathryn Hildreth had a baby boy. 

Strawberry Festival chair Jane Taylor and co-chair Diane Raitt were introduced and addressed the group about the upcoming festival in June. 

A request was made for a volunteer to organize our annual May luncheon.

 The February meeting will be a joint social with the Hollis PTAs.  Amy Dumont, director of Cardiovascular Services at St. Joseph Hospital, will speak on women’s heart health.  The charity for February is Fisher House, a private-public partnership that supports America’s military.

The Board will meet at Stephanie Stack’s home on February 7, 2007.  All members are welcome to attend. 

Betsy Cotton announced a Grab Bag Craft Swap at the general meetings.  Anyone interested can pack up any unused craft items in gallon zip loc bags.  Excess bags will be donated to the elementary art and environmental sciences classes.

Pam Richardson stepped up to fill in at the last moment as speaker for today’s meeting.  A family emergency required the cancellation of Susan Crupi. Susan Durham announced that the March Hollis Town Meeting will be election of offices.  Three Selectmen positions are up for election.  Members were asked to give thought to women in our community to run for Selectmen.  Pam Robbins offered a complimentary 50-minute coaching session, and she passed around a sign-up sheet.  Diane Raitt requested recipes using apples for a pamphlet style apple cookbook to be sold for $1.00.  She will also update the strawberry cookbook.  The recipe for Marion Howe’s pie will be requested.  The strawberry cookbook will be dedicated to Marion Howe.  Ellen Walker asked members to fill out the questionnaires critiquing the Holiday Coffee.  Feedback is requested on how we can make this annual meeting enjoyable to all.  Ellen also announced that a sign-up sheet is on the table for anyone wanting to attend Southern New Hampshire Medical Center’s "Go Red for Women."  Cost is $10.00 for the February 12 session which includes dinner.  The Hollis Brookline Rotary Club will hold the annual Super Bowl brunch.  Tickets are $50.00 in advance.  Ellen thanked Pam Richardson for filling in on such short notice.

The business portion of the meeting was adjourned at 12:30.  New member Pam Richardson, owner of “In Hot Water” spoke to the group abut tea products.
