HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

Call to order by President Kaaren Eastman at 12:05 PM.

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by President Kaaren Eastman.

Thanks were extended to Laurie Miller and her committee for preparations for today’s

meeting.

New members were introduced and welcomed to the Club by Shawntel Fugate: Regina

Breslawski, Diane Raitt, and Sheryl Ellis.

 

Minutes of the October 12 general meeting, the November 12 Guest-Night Potluck, and

the December 14 Holiday Coffee were available for review during the meeting,

and are posted  on the Club’s website.

Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Bev Waitt:  as of January 4, the balance

was $14,017.

 

Correspondence was reported by Corresponding Secretary Denise Pustizzi.  Thanks were received from the Nashua Boys and Girls Club for December’s donation of hats, mittens, and scarves, and from the NH Veterans’ Home for November’s donations of toiletries.  Thanks were also received from the Hollis-Brookline High School National Honor Society for Kaaren’s representation of the Woman’s Club at a Volunteer Fair held at HBHS to acquaint students with community volunteer opportunities.

 

Announcements of upcoming activities were distributed on handouts at the meeting, and are available on the website.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      HWC Centennial Donation Program: Kaaren thanked members who brought towels today to donate to Harbor Homes.  She summarized donations to date:     

a.       September:  136 pairs of socks and 5 blankets to the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter

b.      October: Over $200 in grocery and pharmacy gift cards to Home Health and Hospice

c.       November: About 100 toiletry items to the NH Veterans Home

d.      December: 143 hats, gloves, and scarves to the Nashua Boys and Girls Club

e.       January:  Towels collected today for Harbor Homes

f.        February’s charity will be Bridges, a program for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

 

    2. Volunteer opportunity: The Club has responded to the Hollis Seniors’ request for periodic assistance at its weekly luncheon, provided by Meals on Wheels at the Seniors’ meeting at Faith Baptist Church.  Three volunteers will be needed for each of three dates: January 26, February 23, and March 23.  Sign-ups are available at the meeting.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1.      Kaaren announced Bev Waitt’s resignation from the position of Treasurer, due to her upcoming marriage and her relocation to Virginia.  Victoria Witt volunteered to serve out Bev’s term.

2.      Nominating Committee:  Shawntel Fugate and Kathleen Rowe volunteered to join Susan Benz on this committee.

3.      By-Laws Committee:  Ginny Brooks and Betsy Cotton volunteered to join Julie Forgaard and Ann Shedd on this committee.

4.      Centennial Celebration:  Volunteers are needed to plan a celebration.

5.      Group outing to the Boston Garden:  Kaaren announced an opportunity to join other Club members for a Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls basketball game on Sunday, March 26. Sign-ups are available. 

6.      Ski Days: January 25 at Ragged Mountain, February 14 and March 14 at Mt. Sunapee.  Sign-ups are available.

7.      The GFWC-NH meeting on January 28 will have as a theme “The Heart of the Matter.”  Kaaren will be attending and other members are welcome to join her.

8.      The Hollis-Brookline PTSA has announced a program on “Teens and Internet Safety,” to be held at the High School on Tuesday, February 14 at 7 PM, with a snow-date of February 20.  The program will be broadcast on local-access cable.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 12:55 PM.  Following the business meeting, a program on window fashions and colors for home decorating was presented by Club member Mitzi Davidson.

 

The next Board meeting will be at Freda Bromberg’s home, on Wednesday, February 1, 2005 at 9:00 AM.

 

The next General meeting will be at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 8, 2005, with social hour at 11:00 and business meeting at 12:00.
