HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

 

Call to order by president Kaaren Eastman at 12:00.

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women  were led by Susan Benz.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Gail Jellison, who died on December 18.  Kaaren announced that the Woman’s Club will be accepting donations in Gail’s memory, to be donated to a charity in consultation with Gail’s husband Bob.

 

Minutes of the meeting of December 8, 2004 are available for review during the meeting or on the Club’s website.

 

Treasurer’s report was summarized by Kaaren; the balance is $16,550.51.

 

Thanks were offered to Rebecca Christianson and her committee for arranging refreshments for today’s meeting.

 

New members Trish Martin and Mitzi Davidson were introduced and welcomed  to the Club by Vice President Susan Benz.  Guests at today’s meeting were also welcomed.

 

Ways and Means Report:  In Donna Drottar’s absence, Kaaren announced the availability of note-cards for sale; the cards have the same  “Hollis” design found on the recent edition of HWC t-shirts.

 

Announcements of activity groups’ upcoming events were made.

 

Old business:

1.  Kaaren extended thanks to all members who have brought in toys and toiletries for the Romanian orphanage project.  Jo Davidson will be leaving for Romania on February 17;  further donations may be delivered to her home.

2.  Kaaren also extended thanks to members who have donated diapers and winter coats for the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter.

3. HWC Centennial cookbook:  Freda Bromberg requests recipes from members, for a new edition of the HWC Cookbook, to be released late this year in honor of the Club’s 2006 centennial.

 

New business:

1. Committee members:  Kaaren requested volunteers from the general membership to serve on several short-term committees.  Nominating Committee volunteers are Trish Martin and Laurie Miller.  By-laws Committee volunteers are Doris Rafferty and Deb Szok.  Budget Committee volunteer is Virginia Martin.

2.  Tsunami relief donation: At the Jan 5, 2005 Board meeting, the Board voted to make a $500 donation to Tsunami relief.  Which specific organization should receive these funds is still to be determined;  the state Federation has submitted a list of several possibilities.  The HWC general membership will vote whether to approve this expenditure at the February general meeting.

3.  Lawrence Barn fundraiser:  Liz Barbour introduced Laurie Ball and Kathleen Barnes, who have volunteered to coordinate a Benefit Black-Tie Ball with a goal of raising $15,000 for the Lawrence Barn Community Center.  Laurie and Kathleen presented preliminary plans for this event, to be held on April 16, and asked for other volunteers to help with planning the Ball.

 

The next Board meeting will be at Andrea Seddon’s home on Wednesday,February 2 at 9:00.

 

The next general meeting will be at the Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 9, with a social hour at 11:00 and business meeting at 12:00

 

Meeting was adjourned at 12:55, followed by a program on hearty soups, presented by Liz Barbour of The Creative Feast.
