HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

Call to order by President Kaaren Eastman at 12:05 PM.

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by Susan Benz.

 

Thanks were extended to Michelle Gehan and her committee for preparations and refreshments for today’s meeting.

 

New members were introduced and welcomed to the Club by Shawntel Fugate: Peggy Bradshaw, Sherry Lucas, Jane Taylor, and Cheryl Villani.  Guests were also welcomed to today’s meeting.

 

Minutes of the meeting of January 11, 2006 were available for review during the meeting and are posted on the Club’s website.

Treasurer’s report was presented by Victoria Witt. The balance as of January 13 was $12,268.90. This included income of $179 from sales by Club members at the Holiday Coffee; this $179 will be donated to the Pastoral Care Center per the rcommendation of the Charitable Contributions Committee.

 

Correspondence:  Denise Pustizzi reported thanks received from UNICEF for a donation of $131 collected at Halloween; this will be used for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

 

Announcements of upcoming activities were distributed on handouts at the meeting, and are available on the Club’s website. Susan Benz made announcements of upcoming Ski Outings to Mt Sunapee, Carpool and group-ticket opportunities to the New England Spring Flower Show, and a NYC day-trip by motor-coach.  Details are available on the website.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Kaaren thanked members who brought items today to donate to the Bridges program.

2.      HWC Centennial Celebration planning is underway.

3.      The Nominating Committee (Susan Benz, Shawntel Fugate, and Kathleen Rowe) is preparing a proposed slate of officers for the 2006-2007 year.

4.      The Bylaws Committee (Ginny Brooks, Betsy Cotton, Donna Drottar, Julie Forgaard, and Ann Shedd) invite members of the Club to contact the Committee if issues are identified with any of the existing by-laws.

5.      The Budget Committee (Freda Bromberg, Donna Drottar, Shawntel Fugate, Laurie Miller, Bev Waitt, and Victoria Witt) have prepared a proposed budget for 2006-2007. This will be presented to the general membership at the March meeting for vote at the April meeting.

6.      Volunteer opportunity: The Club has responded to the Hollis Seniors’ request for periodic assistance at its weekly luncheon, provided by Meals on Wheels at the Seniors’ meeting at Faith Baptist Church.  Three or four volunteers will be needed for these dates: February 23 and March 23.  Sign-ups are available at the meeting.

7.      Thirty tickets have been sold, and tickets are still available for the Woman’s Club’s March 26 outing to the Boston Celtics-Chicago Bulls basketball game.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1.      GFWC-NH is raising funds for establishment of a visitor information center commemorating the Old Man of the Mountain.  They will be hosting a Designer Showhouse in Pembroke from April 22 thru May 14. Volunteer hostesses are needed, and tickets will be available.

2.      GFWC-NH mid-winter conference was attended by Kaaren Eastman and Diana Kroeger.  One of the presentations was about a “Heart of America” program which distributes books to under-served schools.  The HWC’s March collection will be for this program.  Gently-used children’s books for grades

      K – 8, or cash donations, may be brought to the March general meeting.

3.      Sema Minassian announced a program on Medicare Part D on Tuesday, February 14 at 11:30 or 6:30 PM.

4.  The HBHS-PTSA will be hosting a presentation on “Internet Safety and   

Teens,” presented by the Hollis Police Department, on Wednesday, February 15.

The next Board meeting will be at Donna Drottar’s home, on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 9:00 AM.

NOTE:  Due to the timing of the schools’ February vacation, this is a change from the normal date.

 

The next General meeting will be at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, with social hour at 11:00 and business meeting at 12:00.

 

The business meeting was followed by a presentation by Professor Barbara Baudot of St. Anselm’s College. Her lecture was titled “The Spiritual and Moral Dimensions of the Politics of Development.”
