HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

Wednesday, March 8, 2006

 

Call to order by President Kaaren Eastman at 12:05 PM.

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by Susan Benz.

 

Thanks were extended to Shawntel Fugate and her committee for providing hospitality

for today’s meeting.

 

Guests were welcomed to today’s meeting.

 

Minutes of the meeting of February 8, 2006 were available for review during the meeting and are posted on the Club’s website.

 

Treasurer’s report was presented by Victoria Witt. The balance as of  March 1 is

$11,661.48. Details of the proposed $7,810 budget for 2006-2007 budget were reviewed; the budget will be voted on at the April meeting.

 

Ways and Means Report was given by Kaaren Eastman in the absence of Monique

Delage.  Strawberry recipes are being collected for a booklet to be assembled for

sale at the Strawberry Fetival.

 

Announcements of upcoming activities were distributed on handouts at the meeting, and

are available on the website.

 

Upcoming outings were announced by Susan Benz:

            1. A Sunapee ski day is scheduled for March 15.

            2. New England Flower Show tickets are available at a group price, good for any day during the Show.

            3. The HWC Annual Luncheon will be on May 10 at the Manchester Country Club. Onsite babysitting will be available.  Reservation information will be mailed to Club members.

            4. The HWC 100th Anniversary Celebration is being planned as a Country Dance and Pig Roast on Saturday, August 26 at 4 PM at the Lawrence Barn.  All current and past members and their families will be invited.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

1. Kaaren thanked members who brought children’s books to donate to the Heart Of

America program.  The books will be delivered to a Manchester, NH school.

2. The Budget Committee prepared the proposed budget presented today.

3. The Bylaws Committee reviewed the existing bylaws and solicited input from the

general membership.  No revisions are proposed at this time.

 

 

4. The Nominating Committee has prepared a proposed slate of officers for the 2006-

2007 year. A vote will be taken at the General Meeting on April 12. The proposed

slate is appended to the end of these minutes.

5. Kaaren announced that the Club sold 50 tickets to the Celtics-Bulls game.

6. Volunteers for Hollis Seniors’ luncheons: Kaaren thanked Ella DeBaaker, Cathy

Clemens, and Denise Pustizzi for volunteering for the February luncheon.  The

Club has agreed to extend through June its trial period for providing volunteers once a month. Denise Pustizzi shared her thoughts on the experience. Sign-ups are available for the April through June dates.

7. GFWC-NH is having a fund-raiser for an Old Man of the Mountain memorial and

exhibit. A Designer Showhouse will be held in Pembroke April 21 – May 14. 

Tickets will be available at a discount if more than 20 people order through the

HWC. Volunteers are needed to hostess at the event.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Strawberry Festival: Ginny Brooks and Sheryl Ellis will be co-chairing the Festival. Sign-ups for volunteers at the Festival are available.  

2. Ginny Brooks expressed the Club’s gratitude for Pam Robbins’ recent compilation of a comprehensive “How-to” manual for organizing the Strawberry and Apple Festivals, which includes a time-line, job descriptions, forms, permit applications, signs, recipes, etc.

3. Club members announced upcoming events including a Women’s Expo on March 11 and a Money-Management Workshop on March 14.

The next Board meeting will be at Trish Martin’s home, on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 9:00 AM.

 

The next General meeting will be at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, with social hour at 11:00 and business meeting at 12:00.

 

After the business meeting Allison Anneser presented a program titled “Refined to Real: Moving Your Family to Healthier Eating.”
