HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

Wednesday, April 12, 2006

 

Call to order by President Kaaren Eastman at 12:05 PM.

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by Susan Benz.

 

Thanks were extended to Donna Fusi and her committee for making preparations for today’s meeting.  Thanks were also extended to all Club members who brought in donations for this month’s Centennial Celebration collection of paper goods for the Nashua Pastoral Care Center.

 

Visitors were welcomed to the Club.  Syd Johnson introduced herself and intends to become a member.

 

Minutes of the meeting of March 8, 2006 were available for review during the meeting and are posted on the Club’s website.

Treasurer’s report was presented by Victoria Witt. The balance as of April 1 is $11,130.13.

 

Correspondence was reported by Denise Pustizzi, who also thanked Club members who have volunteered at the Hollis Seniors’ Luncheons and encouraged continued participation.  Correspondence was received from:

1.      The Bridges program expressing gratitude for the Club’s donations

2.      Past Club President Bev Waitt (Kemp) expressing gratitude for the wedding gifts.

3.      The GFWC-NH regarding an April 24 Day of Volunteering at the Manchester YWCA and Emily’s Place, an emergency shelter.  Sign-up sheets are available, with an April 17 deadline.

 

Announcements of upcoming activities were distributed on handouts at the meeting, and are available on the website.  Sheryl Ellis announced that she would like to organize a HWC bowling team; teams of 4 – 5 could participate in a day-time women’s league or an evening co-ed league. 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Susan Benz announced upcoming activities: The third annual New York City bus trip on June 3, the HWC annual luncheon at the Manchester Country Club on May 10, and the HWC Centennial Celebration Country Dance and Pig Roast on Saturday, August 26 at the Lawrence Barn.

2.      Kaaren thanked the By-laws Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Charitable Contributions Committee for their efforts.

3.      The proposed slate of officers for 2006-2007 (attached) was presented and was unanimously approved.

4.      The proposed budget of $7,810.00 was distributed at last month’s meeting.  Ginny Brooks moved that it be accepted, and Susan Durham seconded the motion.  The motion passed.

5.      The Charitable Contributions Committee has recommended the following donations:  $179 to the Pastoral Care Center (this amount was raised at the December Coffee), $50 to the Hollis Fire Department, $500 to the Nashua Soup Kitchen, $500 to the HBHS FIRST program, $1000 to the HUES DARE program, $1200 to the Alstead Flood Relief Project, and $1000 to the Beaver Brook Forever Campaign.  Mara Huberlie made a brief presentation about the Beaver Brook Forever Campaign.

6.      GFWC-NH is having a fund-raiser for an Old Man of the Mountain memorial and

exhibit. A Designer Show-house will be held in Pembroke April 21 – May 14. 

Tickets will be available through the HWC. Volunteers are needed to hostess three-hour shifts at the event, and a sign-up sheet is available.

   

NEW BUSINESS:

             Strawberry Festival Chairwomen Ginny Brooks and Sheryl Ellis were introduced.  They thanked those who have signed up to chair Festival Committees:  Hanne Newell (outside workers), Pat McLellan (inside workers), Susan Durham (cashiers), Susan Benz (publicity), and Kaaren Eastman (hullers).  During the meeting they recruited these additional Committee chairs:  Jane Taylor (hullers), Mary Lou Ward (bakers), Syd Johnson (whippers), and Betsy Cotton (volunteer coordinator).  Club members were encouraged to sign up for the many volunteer opportunities still available to run a successful Strawberry Festival.

The Hollis Woman’s Club Annual Luncheon will be at the Manchester Country Club on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 11:30.  Invitations have been mailed and prompt replies will be appreciated.
