HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING
Wednesday, September 14, 2005
Call to order by President Kaaren Eastman at 12:00 PM.
Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women were led by Susan Benz.
Members and guests were welcomed to today’s meeting. Thanks were extended to Kathryn Hildreth and her committee for providing refreshments for today’s meeting.
Kaaren announced that we will be celebrating the Hollis Woman’s Club Centennial over the coming year. Monthly collection of 100 specified items for donation to charity will be part of the celebration. Those who brought socks and blankets today were thanked.
Officers and Committee heads were introduced. Thanks were extended to Freda Bromberg for coordinating this year’s yearbook and directory.
Thanks were extended to all members involved with the Strawberry Festival. Special thanks were extended to co-chairs Lynn Wolaver and Kathleen Barnes, and to Bev Waitt and Ginny Brooks for their last-minute extra efforts.
New member Denise Pistizzi was introduced and welcomed to the Club by Shawntel Fugate.
Minutes of the meetings of April 13 and May 11, 2005 were available for review during the meeting, or on the Club’s website.
Treasurer’s report was presented by Bev Waitt. The balance as of September 7 is $37,159.55. Bev also announced that the Club’s net from the Strawberry Festival was $1,768.
Ways and Means Report: Chairwoman Monique Delage was unable to attend today’s meeting. In her absence Kaaren reported upcoming events including the Old Home Day sale of Krispy Kremes and mylar character balloons; Apple Festival sweet-shop, face-painting, temporary tattoos, t-shirt and apron sales; Simon Evening of Giving at Pheasant Lane Mall on Sunday, November 20; and Holiday Gift-Wrapping at Barnes and Noble on December 9 and 18. Volunteers will be needed for all of these fund-raising activities.
Announcements of upcoming activities were made by representatives of the activity groups, and are available on the website. Sign-up sheets were available at the meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Hurricane Katrina Relief: Research is underway on how the Club can most effectively contribute to relief efforts.
2. Charitable Requests Committee: Ginny Brooks and Susan Durham volunteered to join Club Treasurer Bev Waitt on this committee.
3. GFWC Annual Meeting: With a theme “What’s Old is New Again” this meeting will be in Lincoln, NH on September 23. The District 6 Annual Meeting will be in Wilton on November 5. Kaaren has information for anyone interested in attending either of these meetings.
4. Apple Festival: Chairwomen Chris Furman and Denise Sheridan were introduced, and outlined remaining positions and responsibilities for which volunteers are needed.
5. Telephone Committee: Volunteers are needed, and may contact Kaaren or Chairwoman Kathryn Hildreth.
6. Hollis PTA: There will be a combined morning coffee/meeting with the Woman’s Club on September 28.
7. Lawrence Barn: The HWC has donated over $25,000 toward the construction of this historic community center. Kathleen Barnes, Denise Sheridan, and Cynthia Andreola volunteered to be HWC representatives at the Lawrence Barn Committee meetings.
8. Guest night potluck: Ginny Brooks volunteered to be Anneke Tabachnikoff’s co-hostess for this event.
9. Hollis-Brookline HS Football Team Fundraiser: Discount cards to local businesses are being sold to raise money for lighting and safety equipment. Kaaren can be contacted for information.
10. Centennial Cookbook: As the Old Home Day Committee and the GFWC are both issuing cookbooks this season, the HWC Centennial Cookbook may be deferred until 2006.
11. Beaver Brook Fall Festival: Susan Durham announced that this event will be occurring Saturday and Sunday from 12 – 5, on Sept 17-18 and 24 – 25.
The next Board meeting will be at Susan Benz’s home, at 9:00 on Wednesday, October 5, 2005.
The next General meeting will be at Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 12, 2005, with social hour at 11:00 and business meeting at 12:00.
