Hollis Woman’s Club General Meeting

 

                                     Wednesday, October 11, 2006

 

Call to order by President Diana Kroeger at 12:00 PM .

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women was led by Pam Robbins.

 

Visitors and guests were welcomed by Diana. She then highlighted the upcoming events:

 

Guest Night and Potluck Dinner Party to be held Saturday, November 11th, at 6:30 PM at Faith Baptist Church, 43 Wheeler Rd. Myles Walker will give a talk describing his experiences as a B-29 bomber pilot during the last bombing mission of World War II, and the Hollis/Brookline High School Honors Jazz Combo will play. Sign up sheets were available on the table and attendees were asked to bring their favorite potluck dish to the

event.

 

14th Annual Simon Evening of Giving will be held Sunday, November 19th, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Pheasant Lane Mall. Tickets are $10, a portion of which goes to our Club. Sign up sheets were available. See Diana for more information.

 

Diana thanked those members who contributed to our October Charities: Sweaters collected will be delivered to Davis Funeral Home for distribution and canned items will be delivered to Corpus Christi Food Pantry.

 

Treasurer’s Report was prepared by Sheryl Ellis. Copies were available at each table. Contact Sheryl if you have any questions.

 

Ways and Means Report was not available for the meeting. Diana mentioned that the night lights, aprons, and cook books are still for sale.

 

Activity Group Report was read by Diana. Walking Group is on hold for now. Two new groups have started up: Bowling (contact Sheryl Ellis) and Bridge (contact Eve Day). Sign-up sheets for all the Activity Groups were available on the table.

 

Old Business:

 

Apple Festival report was given by Co-Chair Kaaren Eastman. 250 desserts were sold at the Festival despite the rainy weather. She thanked all the volunteers and tokens of appreciation were given to those who chaired committees. Several frozen apple crisps were available for sale for $5 during today’s meeting.

 

 

 

 

Hollis Senior Lunch Volunteer Program: Overview given by Chair Laurie Miller. She introduced Denise April, who coordinates the lunch program. Denise asked for volunteers to help with set up and assist with meal serving. The Hollis Woman’s Club monthly volunteer date is the fourth Thursday of every month at 10:00 AM. Sign up sheets were passed around. Contact Laurie for more information.

 

GFWC–NH District 6 Conference will be held on November 4th at Brookline Community Church in Brookline. Club members from Brookline, Hollis and Wilton will attend. Contact Diana for more information. We will donate two coffee and tea gift baskets to be raffled off during the district meeting.

 

December NYC Bus Trip – December 2nd. Contact Susan Benz for reservations.

 

New Business:

 

Telephone Tree Chair Kaaren Eastman spoke about the importance of having a telephone committee in place in order to get information out to members. Please contact Kaaren if you can volunteer some time to make phone calls.

 

Our November Centennial Charity is Harbor Homes – Veterans Program. Items most needed are soap, razors, shaving crème, shampoo, toothpaste, and toothbrushes. Please bring your donations to our November 8th general meeting.

 

Susan Durham announced that tickets are on sale from the Hollis Colonial Garden Club to see Roger Swain on October 19th. She also noted that the Hollis Historical Society will feature an Eleanor Roosevelt impersonation on October 26th. Contact Susan for more information.

 

The next Board meeting will be on Wednesday, November 1st, 9:00 AM at the home of Kaaren Eastman.

 

The next General meeting will be on Wednesday, November 8th, at Faith Baptist Church. Social hour is at 11:00 AM. Business meeting is at 12:00 noon. Babysitting is available at 12 p.m. (noon) for $5 per family.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 12:40 PM. A presentation by Emeran Longmaid of A&E Coffee Roastery followed the business meeting.
