Ways and Means reported by Susan Benz:

  1. Today’s meeting was the last day to sign up for the Evening of Giving to held on November 18, 2007 at all Simon Malls, including the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua.  Tickets are $10 each.  The HWC receives $7 from each ticket they sell and the remaining $3 goes to charity.  Susan mentioned that the tickets were available at today’s meeting via the honor system.  Anyone providing $10 cash, or a check made out to the HWC, could pick up a ticket.
  2. Susan announced that members of HWC could sign up to do gift wrapping at the Pheasant Lane Mall on Friday, December 21st from 10AM to 5PM.  The Mall would divide proceeds from the gift wrapping among all groups who participated in wrapping presents.  A sign-up sheet was available at the meeting.
  3. The new HWC Apple Cookbook was still available for $1.00 each.
  4. The Parents’ Afternoon Out is coming up on December 2, 2007 from 1pm to 5pm.  Tickets are $15/child or $40/family if there are more than 3 children.  Adults are needed to help monitor the event.   Girl Scouts Cadette Troop # 650 will organize the games.  A sign-up sheet is available at the meeting and people can volunteer for 4 hours or less.  Only toilet-trained children can attend.  At this time, 17 children are signed up for the event.

Activities:  President Diana Kroeger reported for Julie Forgaard that a monthly calendar of club events was available on each table along with a page of descriptions for each club.

Thanks were extended to Jan Welch and Ella De Bakker for hostessing this meeting.

Ongoing Business:

  1. Diana Kroeger announced that the Hollis Woman’s Club always meets at the church.  Members are encouraged to bring a friend.  New Members are always welcome.  Babysitting is available at $5 per family.  One new change is that members are now asked to pre-register for the babysitting service.
  2. Next month’s board meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 5th, at 9AM at the Lawrence Barn.  The next general meeting of the HWC is on Dec. 12th at the church.  The December meeting will consist of a social coffee and gift bonanza.  If anyone wanted to share a hobby, craft, or business, they could reserve a table by contacting Ellen Walker.  There are 14 tables available and they can be shared.  Last year’s December meeting had full occupation of tables.  Ellen Walker passed around a sign-up sheet for those members wishing to reserve a table.  The HWC asks that 10% of proceeds from any sales at the event be given to the club for donation to a local charity.  All members are encouraged to bring a friend to the event.
  3. December’s charity would be The Caregiver’s, Inc. who are requesting gasoline gift cards for their volunteers to use when visiting and doing errands for disabled or elderly members of the community.
  4. Shawntel Fugate thanked members of the Apple Festival Committee.  President Diana Kroeger presented pots of mums to Shawntel Fugate, Jane Taylor, and Betsy Cotton. Diana presented Apple Festival Chair Shawntel Fugate with an apple necklace.
  5. The Potluck Dinner was held on November 10th with speakers Ed McDuffy of the Eighth Armored Division and Maj. Lavoie who served in two tours of Vietnam.  Diana Kroeger thanked Ellen Walker for coordinating the speakers.  Ginny Brooks was presented with flowers for organizing the potluck event.
  6. Betsy Cotton reminded members that the craft bag was available for members to take or add items.

New Business:  Jane Taylor outlined a proposal to adopt a family in need during the month of December.  Jane has spoken with Calley Lingley at the Shepherd’s Fund.  They are looking for basic gifts.  Jane noted that the HWC would be assigned a family after Thanksgiving.  They will not be a Hollis family but may have a Hollis connection.  There will be a forthcoming email outlining the family’s needs so that members can respond accordingly.

Ginny Brooks stated that the Boy Scouts were holding their annual Food Drive.  Plastic bags had been delivered to each Hollis household.  Ginny reminded members to fill their bags with canned and boxed food items and place them for pick-up outside their homes on the following Saturday.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:30PM
