HOLLIS WOMAN’S CLUB GENERAL MEETING

DECEMBER 8, 2004

 

Call to order by president Kaaren Eastman at 11:00.

 

Thanks were offered to Rosemary Altobelli and her committee, and to Steward Chris Furman, for setting up the meeting and for providing refreshments. Thanks were also offered to all members who brought warm coats and disposable diapers to donate to the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter.

 

New members were introduced and welcomed to the Club:  Lorie Ball, Kristen Duymazler, Kathleen Barnes, Laurie Miller, and June Madeira.

 

Ways and Means Report:  The Club sold tickets for the Simon Mall Charity Night event, and participated in a gift-wrapping fund-raiser at Barnes and Noble on the day after Thanksgiving.  All who participated were thanked for their efforts on behalf of the Club.

 

Announcements:

1. Activity Groups: New groups include the “Chick-Flicks” group, a Mother’s Group, and a Cookbook Sampling group.  Virginia Martin will be coordinating the last; anyone interested in participating is invited to attend a brief organizational meeting at the Faith Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 12 at 10:30 AM, immediately preceding the next general meeting.

          Victoria Witt announced upcoming events for the Walking Group and the Craft Group, and invited all Woman’s Club members to attend the Hollis Town Band Holiday Concert. 

2. Lawrence Barn Fund-raiser: Nora Lewis will be chairing a committee to plan a fund-raiser for the Lawrence Barn Community Center.

3. Romanian orphanages:  Jo Davidson of Hollis will be making her fifth trip to Romania with a multi-disciplinary team.  Kaaren read a letter from Jo detailing the nature of the team’s work with Romanian orphans.  Donations of money, supplies, and “sock-dolls” will again be needed;  details will be on the HWC website.

4. HWC 100th Anniversary: will be celebrated next year.  Freda Bromberg is coordinating release of a new and updated edition of the HWC cookbook, and is seeking committee members and recipes.

5. Lynn Wolaver made an announcement regarding the convalescence of Club-member Teri Almond.
