Hollis Woman’s Club General Meeting

Call to order by President Diana Kroeger at 12:00 PM

 

Pledge of Allegiance and Collect for Women was led by Susan Benz

 

Visitors and guests were welcomed by Diana.  Members were encouraged to seek out interest groups to meet new people.

 

Shawntel Fugate welcomed the following new members:  Audrey Augen, Janet Chaney, Sharon Taylor, and Amy Kelly.  Shawntel announced that membership renewals were coming up.

 

Secretary’s Report from the March meeting is on display at the greeter’s table.

 

Treasurer’s Report was prepared by Sheryl Ellis.  Copies are on each table. 

Budget Committee was reported by Shawntel Fugate.  The proposed budget was presented and will be voted on at the April meeting.  The Budget Committee members are:  Sheryl Ellis (chair), Donna Drottar, Shawntel Fugate, Ellen Walker, Laurie Miller, and Diana Kroeger.

 

Ways and Means report was given by Diana for Diane Raitt.  Recipes for the updated Strawberry and Apple Cookbooks are still needed.

 

Activities by Diana for Julie Forgaard: The Walking Group has restarted being led by Kathleen Barnes on Wed. mornings at Beaver Brook.  Pam Robbins is moving to Seattle, WA.  Susan Benz will lead the Chick Flick Group.  The Evening Book Group still needs a leader.

 

Diana thanked Kaaren Eastman, Pat McClellan and their committee for the refreshments today.

 

Old Business

 

The charitable organization this month is Area Agency of Greater Nashua.  Gift cards from local grocery stores are being collected for this organization.

 

The Budget, Nominating and Bylaws committees have met.  Ginny Brooks read the proposed changes to the Bylaws.  Members will have a copy of these changes at the April meeting to look over. 

 

Ginny and Ellen Walker announced that the May Luncheon will be held at the Crowne Plaza on May 9, 2007.  Cost for the luncheon is $25 per person.  Two entrée choices will be available.  Babysitting will be offered at Faith Baptist Church on a reservation basis only from 11 AM to 2 PM.

 

Kaaren Eastman announced the proposed slate of officers for 2007-08.  There are several openings to be filled.  Audrey Auger and Amy Kelly volunteered to share the office of Recording Secretary for the general meetings.  The proposed slate of officers reads as follows:

Diana thanked all of the committees for their work.

 

Diana reported for Laurie Miller that volunteers are needed for the Senior Lunch Program.  Our commitment is on the 4th Thursday of the month for about 3 hours.  Ginny Brooks and Kathleen Barnes volunteered for March.

 

Activities:  Susan Benz asked for suggestions for fund raising projects.  There will be a ski Trip on March 21, 2007.  The New York City trip for June 2nd has several openings.  Contact Susan for a reservation.

 

Strawberry Festival was reported by Jane Taylor.  The festival is June 24, 2007, from 2-4 PM at the Monument Square. Volunteers are needed in all areas.  A sign-up sheet with all areas listed is on the refreshment table.  Chairs are needed for the two hulling committees and the baking committee.  Members were asked to save the date and sign up for the festival.  They were also encouraged to get their friends and families involved.  An Art Fair will be included in the Festival this year.  Five to ten juried artists will be exhibiting their art with the intent of bringing in a new and different customer to the Festival.

 

Craft Swap items were on display. This program is organized by Betsy Cotton.

 

Diana asked if any members had coins for the GFWC-NH Domestic Violence Awareness Project.

 

The dedication ceremony for Harbor Homes Veterans’Buckingham Place will be held at 9:30 AM on March 19, 2007.  Diana reported that Cynthia Andreola has asked that the HWC consider furnishing and painting a unit.  Discussion followed.

 

The next board meeting will be on Wednesday April 4, at the Lawrence Barn at 9:00 AM.  The next General meeting will be on Wednesday, April 11th.  The program will be HWC member and designer Susan Crupi.  Babysitting is available from 12:00 (noon) for $5 per family.

 

The April Charity is Marguerite’s Place.  Members are asked to donate gasoline gift cards, and Wal-Mart/Target/Market Basket gift cards.  These donations will aid women in crisis.

 

Diana reminded members that we will be hosting the GFWC-NH District 6 meeting in October.

 

Eve Day asked if the monthly meetings for the HWC will be held at the Lawrence Barn.  Diana will look into the possibility if there is no fee involved.

 

Addie Saunders reminded members of the town meeting this evening.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.  A presentation by fellow member Cheryl Villani on women’s finances followed.
